Healthy habitats for a healthier life. If you want to be fit and healthy there are simple changes that you can make to your daily routine to get started on the right foot. Developing a healthy routine can not happen overnight, but you have to start somewhere!

Get Enough Sleep

Everything in life is about balance, in order to function at your best it is important that you get 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Getting enough sleep is key for your body to be functioning properly. Getting enough can:

  • Decrease risk for adverse health conditions
  • Manage your hunger levels
  • Maintain your immune system
  • Retain memory

I recommend going to bed early. It is believed that people who go to bed earlier (around 10) tend to worry less, be way more productive, and have an easier time maintaining a healthy weight. Just give it a try and see what happens, I don’t think you will regret it.

Wear Fitness Tracker:

I have been wearing one for 5 years now and I can honestly say that it has changed my life for the better!  It makes me so much more aware of how much I do in the day and stops me from just sitting around all day. I try setting daily step goals for myself and trying to make sure I hit it every day, if its 7 pm and I didn’t reach it, I try to go for a walk.

You can even make it more of a competition by challenging your friends to step competitions. There are tons of different fitness trackers out there, do your research and pick one that’s best for. Personally, I recommend the Fitbit, I have it since day one.

Drink Water!

They say you should drink half your body weight in ounces a day, that can be daunting and seem like a lot of water I get it. Especially when you are at work, who has time to be peeing every five mins, hahaha but I promise you your body gets used to it. Drinking water helps to:

  • Boost your Immune System
  • Increase energy
  • Protects your Muscles
  • Flushes Toxins
  • Clean and Bright Skin
  • Increase Mood
  • Reduce bloat and aid in better digestion

Stay Active and Keep Moving:

Move around throughout the day, I know it can be hard when you are sitting at a desk now, but there are small things you can do to help. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk instead of the subway, or while you are on the phone take the call on your cellphone and walk. Even just standing can have health benefits, try a standing desk at the office.

Eat Healthily

I know this one is common sense, but still the truth. Try to limit your fat, sugar, and salt intake. I am not saying don’t go out for dinner with a friend or to have no cheat meals but try to eat healthy as often as possible. Meal prepping can help with this and also save money.

Exercise Everywhere

The world is your gym, don’t limit your workouts to the 4 walls of the gym. The world is your gym. There are so many at-home workouts you can do, with no equipment. You can try programs lie the daily burn that has amazing daily workouts, or just search on Pinterest (here are some I have pinned). I am constantly finding awesome workouts and challenges online, that you can do at home or even in your hotel room. You can also go for a walk or my personal favorite take a hike. The possibilities are endless, so try something new and switch up. The same workout every week can get boring fast.

Stretch

This one is SUPER important, especially if you are working out. Stretching helps to: Prevent injury, Reduce muscle soreness, Improve flexibility and joint mobility, Help improve posture, And is actually believed to reduce stress.

So start taking these small steps to live a healthier lifestyle today. You got this!
